ALTAMIRANO

BRACELET, Pre-eagle. This Hector Aguilar design by Valentin Vidaurreta was made by Manuel Altamirano. Sr. Altamirano was given permission by Hector Aguilar to issue this design under his own name. Manuel Altamirano, a master silversmith, worked for Valentin Vidaurretta, Hector Aguilar, and Ana Brilanti (Victoria). 

Examples of this line can be seen in "Silver Masters", page 198, by Penny Morrill. Also, Christie Romero's 'Warman's Jewelry', page 229.
Signed M. Altamirano, Taxco, Mex. 925, with no eagle.

LOS CASTILLO BRACELET1940s pre-Eagle. This is a favored Taxco design and the cabochons have been presented in a variety of materials; stones, glass, and metals. However, it is rare to see it in Carnelian stones.

LOS CASTILLO BROOCH/PENDANT. This Jorge (Chato) Castillo design won First Prize in the 1955, Taxco Silver Fair. A watercolor, produced by the famed artist Rufino Tamayo, was presented to Los Castillo honoring the occasion. The watercolor incorporated the brooch as the head of the Parrot.

LOS CASTILLO NECKLACE c.1940s, pre-Eagle. Lovely Old Castillo handmade Necklace with large Amethyst stones accented with Niello in Silver Wing Feather forms.

Marked Made in Mexico, design #408, Sterling, and the older linear Los Castillo Taxco mark.
Measures 14" x 1-3/8". This necklace can be extended without hurting the design by adding an inch or two of sterling chain to the hook and chain closure.
Very Good Condition with a lovely Patina.

LOS CASTILLO SALVADOR TERAN, ANGELS, CANDLE HOLDERS,  A Special Museum Quality Vintage Artistic Rendition, in Heavily Weighted Copper. Marked: In a Circle, "Cobre Artistico, Made in Mexico,  CA (in script) Taxco, Los Castillo Handwrought." Don Antonio told me that this set was designed in the late 1940's by his cousin, Salvador Teran, who did most of the Cobre Artistico designs. Production of the Cobre Artistico line stopped in 1955. FIDEL FIGUEROA WATERCOLOR, HOUSES AND STREETS of TAXCO, This Watercolor was created by the Famous Taxco born Artist, who restored the Casa Figueroa, which housed his Studio. Charming Scene of Old Taxco with  People going about their everyday Lives. Beautiful Colors. His works and a short Biography are featured in the book, "Taxco The Enchanted Hill Town", by Leslie C. de Figueroa. Measures  7-3/4" x 10".  Painting is in Excellent Condition. #1923

MARGOT de TAXCO BRACELET, This is one of Margot's most famous Early designs; two Fish encircle your wrist in a joyful play of motion.  Margot's fish designs are often inspired by her love of Japanese Woodblocks and this particular design captures the essence of her Artistry. Beautiful hand work from the fins to the scales to the lovely Amethyst Eyes and highlights.  It does not have the eagle mark, indicating it was made in the late 1940s, just after she opened her shop and before the eagle mark came into use.  Marked Margot de Taxco, #5207. Front Motif Measures 3-3/4" high. Excellent condition, a 1/4" play in the spring. #2325





MARGOT de TAXCO HINGED BRACELET, THE CORN FLOWER DESIGN . Very detailed repousse'  and chased design with Hand Beading. This is one of Margot's most celebrated designs.

The parure was in the touring  "Maestros de Plata"  exhibit and featured in the companion book, "William Spratling And The Mexican Silver Renaissance", by Penny Morrill, pg. 91.

BRACELET, c 1950. This is a very early example of Felipe Martinez's  sculpting of Stone and Silver; Wonderfully formed Green Arched Stones and Repousee Links. As is normal in his choice of stones, their colors cross a range of dark green to bright green.

Signed with an early mark Piedra Y Plata, with the central Y impressed rather than raised as in his later marks. Also, marked Sterling Taxco, Martinez #263.
Measures 7" x 1".
Very Good Condition with a nice Patina.

BRACELET, c 1950. This is a very early example of Felipe Martinez's  sculpting of Stone and Silver; Wonderfully formed Green Arched Stones and Repousee Links. As is normal in his choice of stones, their colors cross a range of dark green to bright green.

Signed with an early mark Piedra Y Plata, with the central Y impressed rather than raised as in his later marks. Also, marked Sterling Taxco, Martinez #263.
Measures 7" x 1".
Very Good Condition with a nice Patina.

SALVADOR TERAN NECKLACE, Dancers and Stars. Exceptional figural design with a great deal of movement in the abstract dancers. The background is blackened to highlight the figures.  This necklace is in the book "William Spratling, the Mexican Silver Renaissance", by Penny Morrrill, page 181. This book was the accompanying catalogue for the Maestro's de Taxco Museum Exhibition that toured the US.

VICTORIA BRACELET, The Angel design. Cut out angel forms , normally with a blackened lower layer, but this example has had the blackening removed, possibly by being dipped in silver cleaner. Although, unusual to see it this way, it does present a very clean look.

VICTORIA NECKLACE/Bracelet COMBO, 1940's, pre-Eagle, This versatile Handmade, Handcut Design has Linear grooved Accents to each flowing, arching, encircling link.  This early, early work (Design #23) shows its age, only in its deep rich Patina. The necklace consists of 29 links and the bracelet consists of 9 links; they could be combined to make a nice Opera-length necklace of 28-1/2".
